Guilt is a common emotion that we all experience. Women, in particular, are prone to feeling guilty, according to research. A 2009 study by Etxebarria, published in the Spanish Journal of Psychology, surveyed women and men from three age groups about which situations most often caused them to feel guilt. The researchers found that habitual guilt was higher for women than men in all three age groups, with the biggest gap in the 40- to 50-year-old range. This age corresponds to the “sandwich generation” years, in which many people juggle taking care of teenagers with staying connected to aging parents.

It may sound easy, but for a lot of people, it’s not. We tend to forgive others more quickly than we forgive ourselves in many cases, and divorce is no exception. You have to realize that you can’t change the past, but that you can prevent yourself from making the same mistakes in the future. At the very least, most people in marriages that end in divorce will experience some form of guilt or another.
Somehow it’s been drummed into me somewhere along the way that unless he beats me, cheats, gambles etc. i’m supposed to just be happy and make it work. I am so surprised the woman at the beginning of this article was able to divorce him so quickly. I have been married 20 years to a nice guy that I do not love. At year 10 I knew I didn’t love him for the same reasons she described. I didn’t realize until year 15 divorce was an option.
We are in ldr and haven’t met yet but his personality what captures me. I am planning to leave tonight but I don’t know how. It also didn’t seem to matter what “it” was.
I didn’t give myself time to heal, and recently I realized that I haven’t been truly single for over 15 years, I’ve always gone from one relationship into another. I have decided that I need time to focus on myself and realize what I truly want. I thought this is what I wanted, and I worked so hard at it, but I realize now that it’s not. Please, if you are a woman , think long and hard before heading down this crazy hedonistic road that this author is suggesting.
